Introduction, first words

Two households, both alike in dignity.... As I begin a course on Shakespeare these are first words to reflect upon. Dignity does not equal class. It is far superior in its purest form, but is that what he meant? Dignity without disdain, disregard, or isolation ... this meaning would change the entire tone of the play.
